Martial Art Taboo Actions

1. Don't be stubborn about plans (don't try to rush progress)(Improve gradually)(Don't treat martial progress with a benchmark mentality)

2. Heart should not be distracted. (Concentrate on your practice regardless of the situation)

3. Regulate your sexual activity. Do not have sexual intercourse at least 24 hours before or after martial practice (this rule applies particularly to Qi gong practitioners). This is due to the internal energy concept. During practice, stance work, Qi gong etc. one cultivates internal energy. You need internal energy to be able to unleash explosive power and maintain a healthy life. In accordance to the doctrines of Qi gong and Chinese medicine theory, when man and woman have sex, the man loses internal energy (Qi) while the woman gains it. Thus, until your internal energy regains its normal balance, do not practice or else you will do your body significant harm. If you do not believe in the concept of Qi and think I am spouting nonesense, you may do whatever you wish. However, these theories such as the concept of Qi, have been in existence for about 4,000 years.

4. Practice in an average temperature environment (not too hot or cold) Also, having organic things around you is always good.

5. Don't wear tight clothes or a belt too tightly (restrains your movements)(Don't wear a belt too tightly because of the dan tian area that's around one's belly)

6. Don't practice when hungry or full.

7. Don't practice when you are angry (Yes we all like Freud's idea of sublimation but in this case, martial art is not the way to go)

8. Don't spit. Swallow your saliva even when you get really tired because saliva and a variety of other bodily fluids have been regarded by Daoists as essence of the body. To spit during practice is to waste your essence.

9. Don't doubt or become lazy
